MONSON CEMETERY COMMISSION
FRIDAY, JULY 7, 2006
The regular meeting of the Monson Cemetery Commissioners convened at 10:00 a.m. in the office at 32 Wilbraham Road. In attendance were Albert T. Wilcox, Robert E. Pease, Paul B. Lovell and Gaylin G. Bingle. David F. Martin III was not present.
Mr. Pease made a motion to accept the meeting minutes of June 2, 2006. Mr. Wilcox seconded the motion.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. Full-time Laborer – The Commissioners agreed unanimously to hire a full-time
Laborer.
2. Transfer of Funds – Paul said $2,000.00 was transferred from the Fiscal ’06 salaries account into the expense account. Paul purchased a pole saw and two trimmers with the funds.
3. Tree in Hillside – Paul said the tree is down in Hillside Cemetery, which the Commissioners agreed at the last meeting to have taken down.
4. Second Riding Mower – Paul said the new riding mower with the bagging system on it has been purchased from Acres Lawnmower and he will be picking it up this afternoon.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Extra Hours for the Part-time Help – Paul said he will be keeping the two seasonal employees on for two weeks at 40 hours per week to help him catch up on everything around the cemeteries.
2. Ceiling Fan/Dehumidifier - Paul said he would like to install a ceiling fan or two in the garage and purchase a dehumidifier for the office to try to reduce the moisture in the building. Paul explained the moisture has gotten so bad that papers feel damp, lights won’t work right away and the copy machine jams up. Mr. Pease suggested having Brian Mushenko install a vented fan through the roof of the building in the garage to circulate the air in order to eliminate the moisture and fumes. The Commissioners agreed to have Paul purchase a dehumidifier for the office and Mr. Pease will contact Mr. Mushenko regarding the cost of installing a vented fan as well
as a ceiling fan or two in the garage. The Commissioners agreed if this doesn’t take the moisture out of the office to purchase a new air conditioner as this would help to alleviate the problem with moisture.
3. Two Trees at Bennett Road Cemetery – Paul said he received a price of $1,600.00 from DG Tree to remove two trees at Bennett Road Cemetery. Paul said a few hundred dollars is in the new budget for tree removal but not enough to cover the cost of the new chain link fence that is needed at Bennett Road. The Commissioners agreed funds could be taken from the Gifts and Bequest Account. Mr. Pease made a motion to have DG Tree take both trees down at Bennett Road Cemetery for a cost of $1,600.00. Mr. Wilcox seconded the motion. Paul said there is also a bad tree in Hillside and the tree next to it has a large limb that is bad.
4. Truck Repair – Paul said the shifting column broke in the Cemetery pick-up costing approximately $300.00 to have repaired. This is all set now. The truck will need two new tires on the front prior to getting a new inspection sticker in September. Paul said he really needs a new truck and would like to keep the old truck as a second truck.
Mr. Wilcox thanked Paul, Gaylin and all of the help for all the work they do.
Mr. Pease made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 11:00 a.m. Mr. Wilcox seconded the motion.
Respectfully Submitted,
Gaylin Bingle
